SINTEF (http://www.sintef.no/) is Scandinavia’s largest independent research organisation, and is a non-profit research foundation. We employ 2100 people most of whom are located in Trondheim and Oslo (Norway). More than 90% of our annual turnover derives from contract research for industry and the public sector in Norway and internationally, and we receive minimal state funding (around 6%). SINTEF is multidisciplinary, with international top-level expertise in a wide range of technological and scientific disciplines, medicine and the social sciences.
Our company vision is “technology for a better society”, and it is an important aspect of our societal role to contribute to the creation of more jobs. We act as an incubator, commercialising technologies through the establishment of new companies. SINTEF is represented in this consortium by Information and Communication Technology (SINTEF ICT) through the department for Networked Systems and Services (NSS).
The department for Networked Systems and
Services (NSS) provides research-based expertise in data management / Big Data, Internet of Services and Internet of Things technologies, cloud computing, model-driven development, quality and security technology, and user-centred development. NSS has lead several national research projects and has extensive experiences from EU projects, such as DaPaaS, SmartOpenData, INFRARISK, ENVISION, REMICS, ACE-GIS, ATHENA, INTEROP, SODIUM, SWING, ENVIROFI and MODAClouds. Participation in the project will be through the research group on model-driven software engineering. This group has been active in the development of various metamodels and languages, methods and tools for model-driven systems engineering, and more recently in the development of sensor and services technologies, big data, open data, and cloud computing.
